Thank you very much for being a part of the Extreme Cottage Makeover - Island Edition crew.
Curly and I are looking forward to seeing you in Maine! This is a beautiful time of year in the northeast and especially on the Maine coast. The leaves will be in full color, the days are generally clear, sunny and cool and the nights cold. (Great for sleeping). Whether you are driving from the Bangor airport or further away the drive will offer you the opportunity to enjoy the history and charm of New England. You will pass through some of the oldest and most picturesque towns and villages in our country and the last 30 miles through Acadia National Park. If you can, leave early and enjoy the drive.
We will have all of the tools and materials necessary to complete the project. You may want to bring along your own hand tools. (hammer, screw driver, utility knife, tape measure, work gloves etc.) Please bring along sturdy work or hiking boots. Hard soles would be best. Although we expect the weather to be very nice it is certainly possible to be otherwise. You should be prepared for very cool and possibly rainy weather. Warm sleeping clothes will most certainly be necessary. In addition to your clothing and personal items you may want to bring along a camera, sleeping bag and your favorite DVD and CD. We will be showing movies in the barn nightly.
Curly has made arrival ferry reservations for everyone. You must arrive 15 minutes prior to the departure time or you will be moved to the back of the line. In this event, you will probably miss the ferry. When you arrive at the ferry terminal park in one of the 4 spaces at the front of the line marked "RES". You will need to pick up your reservation and round trip tickets in the terminal. All reservations and tickets are reserved in Curly's name. Please keep your ticket as it is the ticket for the return trip. The ferry ride will take approximately 45 minutes. Someone will meet you at the Island terminal to direct you to the cottage. The 45 minute ferry ride is one of the most enjoyable experiences when visiting the Island. There is a upper deck that gives a great view of the main land, the Island and other islands in the area. Cadillac mountain, Acadia National Park's highest peak, can be seen aft as you travel to the Island. You may also spot dolphins or harbor seals along the way. If you happen to miss the ferry you will lose your reservation but your ticket is still valid for any ferry ride. Please pick the ticket up and use it for you crossing.
We will be providing all food and beverages. Please let us know of any dietary restrictions or your favorite foods. Most importantly, what is your favorite adult beverage.?
It is important to us that your experience be authentic. To that end, we have carefully designed the sleeping accommodations to resemble that of a 19th century work camp. Bring warm clothes and a sleeping bag if you can. There is a laundry mat on the island if you need to wash clothes during your stay. Cell phone reception is quite good on the island and I will have Internet access via my computer. Thank you again for offering to help. This project will be educational and a heck of a lot of fun. See you in Maine!
